Monthly wine and bubbly boxes, chosen for local taste

Our core service is simple: a monthly box filled with a carefully selected mix of South African wines and sparkling beverages. We focus on local producers, seasonal releases and bottles that make sense for real drinking, whether you are opening one on a quiet Friday night or saving a few for a braai, seafood supper or special toast. Each box is put together with variety in mind, so members can try different grapes, styles and regions without having to spend hours browsing shelves.

The selection changes from month to month and can include red, white, rosé and bubbly. We pay attention to balance, so the box feels interesting but still approachable. Some months lean lighter and fresher, other months offer fuller styles for colder evenings or richer meals. It is a practical way to build up your own cellar at home, one bottle at a time.

  • Curated South African wines and sparkling drinks
  • Delivered monthly to homes across South Africa
  • Suitable for new wine drinkers and regular collectors
  • Built around local grapes, seasons and food pairings

Who we serve, from first-time tasters to company teams

We work with individuals, couples, groups of friends and businesses that want something a little more personal than a standard function. Some clients join the club to explore wine in a relaxed way. Others book us for birthdays, engagements, weddings or company functions where they want guests talking, tasting and enjoying themselves rather than sitting through a formal programme. We also host beginner wine workshops for people who want to understand the basics, from glassware and tasting notes to reading labels and pairing food.

Our events suit mixed groups too. If half the room knows a shiraz from a cabernet and the other half does not, that is fine. We keep the pace comfortable and the information useful. Clients often come back because we make it easy for everyone to take part, and because the experience feels social without being pushy.

  • Private home tastings

How we run tastings and subscriptions

We keep the process straightforward from the first enquiry to the final pour. Clients reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page, and from there we guide the booking or membership setup. For events, we confirm the type of gathering, number of guests, preferred location and the mood you want to create. That helps us choose the right wines, glassware needs and format for the evening. For club members, we handle the monthly box selection and delivery planning, so the experience stays consistent.

Because many South African households deal with load-shedding, busy schedules and last minute changes, we try to keep things practical. Deliveries are planned with care and event timing is set around what works best for the venue and guests. If you are hosting at home, we can help you plan the tasting so it fits your kitchen, patio or dining room, even when the weather turns or the power goes off mid week. It all needs a bit of common sense, no fuss.

  • Enquiry through the contact form
  • Clear confirmation of event size, date and location

  • Delivery or event setup arranged with local conditions in mind

Where we deliver and host, from the Cape to KZN

We are based in Franschhoek village and work across South Africa, with a strong presence in the Western Cape and major cities nationwide. Our monthly boxes are delivered countrywide, while tasting evenings and events are hosted in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Johannesburg and Durban. We also regularly serve clients in Paarl, Somerset West and Constantia. That local reach matters because different regions have different habits, venue types and expectations.

In the Cape, many clients want vineyard-side evenings, food matching or intimate home tastings. In Johannesburg, corporate groups often ask for structured events that fit after work or over a lunch hour. In Durban, we plan around warm evenings, humidity and venue airflow, especially for bubbly and lighter whites that do well in the coastal climate. We know that a bottle can taste different depending on where it is served, and that practical detail counts.

Since 2013, built around South African wine culture

Ching Ching Cellar was founded in 2013 with a clear idea: make South African wine more social, more accessible and more enjoyable for ordinary people. Over the years the club has grown from a local wine community into a national service that still keeps its original focus on local heritage. We are not trying to overwhelm anyone with jargon. We want people to taste, ask questions and discover what they enjoy for themselves.

Our team brings different strengths to the table. Lwazi Mthembu leads the business, while Anika van der Merwe manages club membership, Siyabonga Dlamini coordinates tasting events and Megan Jacobs leads wine selection. Thabo Nkosi handles logistics and delivery, Leandri Botha looks after customer experience and Yusuf Daniels edits the Cellar Journal. That mix of people helps us stay organised, responsive and practical, which matters when you are dealing with subscriptions, events and deliveries across a country as varied as South Africa.

Why members and clients keep coming back

People return to Ching Ching Cellar because the experience keeps its personal touch. The wines change, the events differ and the conversations are never exactly the same, but the standard stays high. Members like being introduced to new local favourites without having to search all over town. Event clients like that guests can relax, taste and actually enjoy the evening rather than feel intimidated by it.

There is also value in consistency. Our boxes arrive on schedule, our tastings are planned properly and our recommendations are grounded in what works for South African tables, weather and budgets. Whether you are after a quiet monthly box for yourself or a full tasting evening for a group, we make it easy to keep exploring. Over time, that adds up to a proper wine habit, and a good one too.

  • Local wine focus with changing selections
  • Friendly, well run events for small and large groups
  • Useful advice without wine snobbery
  • Consistent service for members and one off bookings
  • A strong connection to South African wine heritage
